The presence of visual arts in Jeddah’s educational celebrations for the National Day has evolved from being merely a side exhibition to a true partner in shaping the scene and a significant element in the details of the celebration, capturing attention with its visual enjoyment and the ideas, culture, and artistic interpretations of the homeland, identity, and humanity that the artworks convey. In the exhibition “Our Pride is Our Nature,” accompanying the General Administration of Education in Jeddah’s celebration of the Saudi National Day, the artwork served as another language of celebration, narrating the homeland through color and symbol, and reclaiming its authenticity, memory, achievements, and cultural transformations through artistic works presented by students and education staff.
The Governor of Jeddah, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, visited the exhibition and paused in front of several artworks, listening to explanations from art education teachers in Jeddah schools about the ideas behind their contributions, their meanings, and the methods of their treatment, as well as the symbols and connotations carried by the paintings that were inspired by the history, culture, and identity of the Kingdom, expressing his admiration for the ideas, culture, and colors he witnessed.
Art education teachers in Jeddah schools, along with supervisors, are strong partners in Jeddah’s National Day celebrations year after year, making the accompanying art exhibitions a much-anticipated space that attracts attention and draws a significant amount of the spotlight with the experiences it offers, combining artistic knowledge, cultural awareness, and the ability to transform the national occasion into a visual discourse that goes beyond mere decoration and fleeting celebration.
This presence comes with the support of the General Director of Education in Jeddah, Manal bint Mubarak Al-Luhaibi, and the Assistant General Director of Education, Engineer Wisam Habes, for visual arts and its programs, viewing it as a strategic partner in the success of Jeddah’s educational events and occasions, due to its ability to create a visual identity for the occasion and enrich its content intellectually, culturally, and aesthetically, while providing space for teachers and students to present their creativity and transform the occasion into an experience that transcends the official program into a lasting visual and cultural impact.
The strength of this experience lies in the fact that several art education teachers and supervisors represent a significant presence in the Saudi artistic scene, carrying artistic and cultural experiences that extend from the classroom to exhibitions, forums, and cultural events, which reflects on the level of participation, the maturity of ideas, and the diversity of methods.
In “Our Pride is Our Nature,” the artwork was not alone; behind it stood a teacher with experience and culture, and behind the color lay an idea, while behind the composition was a reading of the homeland, reaffirming once again that art education is not just a class that ends with the school bell, but a space for cultivating taste, building awareness, and enhancing identity.A distinguished group of supervisors and teachers from Jeddah participated in preparing and organizing the exhibition, led by the supervisor of the student activities department, Ahmed Hassan Al-Ghamdi, with the membership of supervisor Hassan Al-Hussein Al-Zahrani and supervisors Badour Saeed Al-Ghamdi, Ferial Dakhil Al-Shahri, and Hanadi Abdulaziz Farhat.
Teachers who participated include “Hatim Badr Al-Din Filmban, Thamer Mohammed Rabat, Mahdi Ali Aqili, Majid Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, Tarek Ali Al-Malki, Ihab Suleiman Al-Sahji, Rja Sulaiman Al-Dhabyani, Samar Saeed Al-Qahtani, Arwa Ismail Al-Murtada, Hayat Musfer Al-Ghamdi, Mervat Abdulrahman Yasoudan, Naima Abdulwahab Mulla Bar, Alaa Abdulalim Al-Jahdali, Aisha Ahmed Al-Harbi, Alaa Ahmed Al-Omari, and Maha Al-Sahafi.”
As it does every year, the visual arts leave their mark on Jeddah’s educational celebrations, affirming that the story of the homeland cannot be told by words alone; there is a color that can say much, a painting that encapsulates a story, and an artist who makes belonging a scene that remains in memory.
